And what a delight it was! I remember her and more so, her ample breasts, though perhaps augmented with silicone! Unfortunately for me, she never showed her breasts though I could be certain that she stuffed silicone after this movie was made , this movie turned out to be very entertaining. Penelope Cruz, who spoke English like a horse would do in "Vanilla Sky" one of the very few movies in my life that I could not finish, not even halfway , was innocent, fresh, beautiful, likable and very natural in this movie.
This movie also proved that Gabo's description of Serenade in his books is not at all exaggerated. However, the greatest performance was by Juanito Gabino Diego. I was blown by the scene where he goes to the church to renounce his faith, and then when he decides to retain his faith, having denied "republican" free love. It was hilarious! Great entertainment!!! MubukuGrappa Jun 11, Details Edit. Release date February 25, United States. Spain Portugal France. Spanish French. Arruda dos vinhos, Lisbon, Portugal.

Spain's monarchy is about to fall When Manolo's four beautiful daughters arrive from Madrid, Fernando contrives to stay on, and the daughters proceed, one by one, each according to her idiosyncracies, to seduce him.
This is, give or take a few subplots, what happens in "Belle Epoque," but it doesn't account for the film's lilting charm. That comes from a wry, sly script that is part madcap farce and part titillation, with a brief, fey tribute to Disney animation thrown in for good measure.
The film finds humor in the workings of Manolo's bohemian household, in the painter's throwaway wit pointing to one of his works, a blank canvas, he laments that "the Russians imitated it the following year" , and in his daughters' varied styles of lust. And, in a daringly off-the-wall scene that should stand as a classic, the girls' opera-singer mother, sort of a Gaea cum diva, returns from her world tour. Pulling up at dawn, she emerges from her car, tosses a boa over her shoulders, throws back her head and commences to warble a wake-up song.
Her offspring and husband leap from beds to windows to sway along in rapturous greeting, while birds twitter appreciatively. Fernando Fernan Gomez, with his weathered face and his mildly irascible delivery, solidly anchors the film as the philosophical Manolo. Ariadna Gil is electrifying as his mannish daughter, Violeta. Trueba dresses his movie in a lush rural ambience and shoots with an eye for natural abandon.
The film's rhythms are so playful that it can absorb even the untimely suicide of a thoroughly compromised but endearing character without breaking comic stride. At its heart, "Belle Epoque" is a stylish rendition of a classic male fantasy. But instead of exploiting women, it hinges on some pleasurable ways in which women may exploit men. If this doesn't make everyone happy, it's not for want of trying. Running time: Not rated by the MPAA. Nudity, sex, language.
Fernando Fernan Gomez.
