My son had a science project when a child that was designed to use different types of water to grow plants. I had to test the ph of all. I am very concerned that the ph of the distilled water was 4. This is a strong acid. What are the ramifications of breathing an acid nightly?

I filter my water for my CPAP machine, but am aware of the possibility of the presence of bacteria. My filter unit is charcoal based. Hello, thank you for that comment which is very interesting. CPAP manufacturers and, more importantly, medical professionals have always recommended the use of distilled water and we would therefore like to think it is safe. While the pH of 4. We are not sure what caused the water in your test to have sch a high reading but having looked into this, that result does not seem typical so hopefully was just an anomaly.

It is certainly something worth having more research into though. I will be visiting Southampton in November. Where can I buy distilled water? Hi Ron, Apologies for the delay in responding to you. You can purchase distilled water from a local chemist, not a chain such as Boots or SuperDrug. Alternatively you can purchase filtered water from the supermarkets.

Customer Care Team Intus Healthcare. When I use my machine my sinuses swell up under my eyes, any idea as to why. Is that a fixed pressure machine or an automatic? Hello Joe, We would not recommend to put your tube and mask in the dishwasher. It is recommended to clean your mask daily in mild soapy water. You can do the same with your tube, once a week. SoClean kills The most common cause for red marks and skin irritation on the face is bacteria on the CPAP mask cushion.

Even a visibly clean mask can have bacteria growing within the surface. SoClean is the simple way to sanitise all of your equipment and kill Hi, we would not recommend to put your mask and tubing inythe dishwasher.

The mask needs to be cleaned daily in mild sopay water and the same with the tube on a weekly basis. Never to be let to dry on the direct sun light. You can also use wipes or the SoClean unit. It kills I soak my water chamber and nose piece with a denture tablet every morning followed by a good rinse and well dried.

Nice, clean and fresh! Hi Julie, Soaking the water chamber and nasal mask in mild soapy water every morning is a very good habit. Dont forget the tube on a weekly basis and to change the filetrs as per the manufacturer's advise. You have told us how to descale the water chamber. Noting that my Cpap shuts off if turned on when not on my face, is there a way to run the descaling mixture through the machine and not just the chamber Or some other way to D scale the machine itself?

Hi David, Descaling is only for the water chmaber for the humidifier but not for the CPAP machine as the water does not run through it. The CPAP machine only need its filters to be changed as per the manufacturer's intructions. I shan't be using it on the first night and am thinking of giving it back and just suffering with the Apnea because of all the nonsense surrounding what water to use in it.

It seems strange that they make a medical instrument so fussy. No one will stand behind the fact that every advice is saying to use distilled water ,ONLY because of the limescale build up in the tank, which can easily be kept clean and limescale free. I can't imagine that even distilled water once opened has more protection and longevity than normal tap water, probably less so because there are no bacteria killing additives in it! We don't live in a third world country, our water cant be that bad?

Or is it a case that the CPAP manufacturers will start refusing to honour the warranties if the information gets too commonplace that you can use tap water instead of an exotic elixir to keep the machine happy. Either way, I waited eagerly to get my Apnea treated, now I feel like I can't be bothered. I've read all the other replies so I don't need a run down of the chemical composition of tap water, just a sensible answer as to an alternative, NOT a temporary one, IE, you must use distilled after just one use of ordinary water.

Hi Chris, CPAP machine is the gold start therapy for people who suffer from sleep apnoea so it would be a shame to return the device to the NHS because you can not find distilled water around you. A humidifier is recommended for people who suffer from a dry mouth in the morning so may be you can do without if you are ok in the morning.

If you need to use a humidifier, please check with your local chemist for distilled water, not the big chain pharmacy or also on line like Amazon. You can alternatively use filtered tap water like with a Brita jug but please do not use bottle water because of the minerals in it. The water chamber needs to be emptied every morning and fresh water added every night. I hope that will help you and please let us know if you need any further advise to get on with yoru new therapy.

I use distilled water. Just started using a different brand. I noticed thin phlegm-like build up in chamber after days.. What in the world? Also never Knew I had to wash it daily, so washed it weekly, but even then Hello, You might want to contact the person who you bought this distilled water from. If you don't trust the water supply, don't use the water in your CPAP machine. Find access to a drug store or a pharmacy where you can purchase distilled water.

Using distilled water in these instances will minimize your exposure to any risks to both your health and your CPAP equipment. Some CPAP users temporarily use bottled water until they find distilled water.

Finally, if accessing safe water is an issue when on the road, consider forgoing the usage of your humidifier until you get back home. November 03, October 18, October 09, Powered by Shopify.
